JASC Chicago Cooking Classes

The Japanese American Service Committee (JASC) teaches home-style Japanese cooking as part of its cultural programs. The classes are mostly demonstrations: instructors walk the group through each dish, and then everyone eats what was made. Fees cover materials and ingredients.

Adult classes meet monthly on a Saturday or Sunday from 4:00 to 6:30pm and follow the seasons. The current listing is Sushi Roll 101, which covers the basics of rolling with a California roll, seared salmon roll, shrimp tempura roll and matcha butter mochi. JASC runs separate kids' cooking classes on Sundays once a month, teaching cultural dishes. Class sizes are kept to a small group, and a waitlist opens when a class fills.
