Discovery Center is a general adult-education center at 4318 N Elston Ave in Irving Park, near the Blue Line, and has run classes since 1978. It is not a cooking school. Its Food & Drink category is a handful of classes among many subjects, taught by independent instructors.
The core offering is cocktails. Mixology 101 is a four-hour hands-on course in techniques, drinks, recipes and basic equipment, where students build and taste their own creations. Instructor Mario has more than 15 years of experience mixing drinks. Mixology 102 covers more sophisticated and complex cocktails.
The catalog also lists wine tasting classes at $39 and a murder mystery dinner at $75. Students must be 21 or older for the mixology courses.
