Foodie Kids teaches children ages 4 to teens to cook in Austin. It has done it for more than 25 years and says it has taught over 15,000 kids through classes, camps, parties, field trips and special events.
The weekly program is Junior Chefs, a 12 week fall session on Tuesdays from 4:30 to 5:30 for ages 4 and up. Kids make a new sweet or savory recipe each week and learn measuring, mixing, chopping, kneading, baking and kitchen safety. They take the food home.
School-day-off camps are the easy way to try it once. Past themes include Weekend Bakery, Harvest Festival, Friendsgiving, Christmas Market, Seoul Food and Kitchen Time Machine. Camps split into ages 4 to 8 in the morning and ages 8 and up in the afternoon. December brings gingerbread house workshops with hot chocolate.
Birthday parties are a big part of the business, with food, supplies and cleanup handled for you. The shop also sells kid-friendly cooking gear and gift cards.
