About Bake Austin / Kids Culinary School
Bake Austin is a small baking academy for kids ages 7 to 17. Chef Pascal started it in 2012 at a dining room table with one stand mixer. Chef Lucy, who joined as a student and has taught there for seven years, now leads the kitchen.
In-person classes meet at the Genesis Creative Collective, 1507 Wilshire Blvd, in Central East Austin. The main program is summer camp, Monday to Friday from 9am to 1pm. Kids work with real tools and recipes, get individual attention from Chef Lucy, and bring something home every afternoon.
Camps have themes. Bake Around the World visits a new country or city each day. Cake Camp, for ages 8 to 17, takes each child through designing, baking, filling, frosting and fondant to finish a tiered cake.
Kids clean up as they go, and the school treats that as part of the curriculum. Between camps, the school also lists holiday day classes, school holiday classes and weekend classes. Virtual classes started in 2020.
